Menehune Bluffs gets conservation award

LIHUE —The conservation and accounting for thousands of gallons of “unaccounted for” water earned the Menehune Bluffs community the 2019 Conservationist of the Year award that was presented by the East Kauai Soil and Water Conservation District recently.

LIHUE —The East and West Kauai Soil and Water Conservation Districts are holding an important Local Work Group meeting for Kauai agricultural producers representing crops and livestock, private forest land owners, and other professionals representing agricultural and conservation interests.
The meeting will be held at the Office of Continuing Education building at Kauai Community College on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. Pupus and door prizes will be available.
Karratti, Cornell art up for national honors

LIHUE — Waianuhea Leimomimakamae Karratti of the Kawaikini New Century Public Charter School, and Sophie Grace Cornell of the Kilauea School will have to wait until February or March to find out if their art entries earn national recognition.
Jenni Scotti, a conservation specialist with the East and West Kauai Soil and Water Conservation Districts, said the pair earned statewide recognition for their conservation posters and were forwarded to the national competition for consideration of national recognition.
The announcement was made Thursday when the Kauai crew from the conservation districts recognized and honored the nine winners of the annual poster contest hosted by the National Association of Conservation Districts.
